The aim of this paper is to critically analyse the initiative of Green Development brought forward by Chinese government to overcome the environmental challenges as well as the negative impacts of the developmental projects related to Belt and Road Initiative. In its first part, the paper covers the theoretical framework and the basic concepts related to Green Development. In the second part, there is an analysis of the Green BRI with the help of different statistics provided by different official and unofficial resources. The paper concludes with the argument that although China has provided a good, basic guideline related to Green Development but this initiative is still in its formative phase and the guidelines are non-binding. More serious efforts are required to fully implement those guidelines.
