Abstract

Hard human rights cases require that we draw the kinds of subtle lines that the media rarely wish to emphasize. Far more effective are simplistic re-writings that translate into screaming headlines, which, in turn, undermine public perceptions of human rights, neglecting the genuine benefits they provide for all of us.

Keywords: human rights, democracy, free speech, media studies, sociology
