Abstract

This article aims to estimate wage equations, having the legally contracted (formal) workers as the universe of analysis. Contrarily to other related papers that take household level data (from surveys like PNAD, PPV, PME, etc.), we used the Rais, a firm level database. Besides the differentiated nature of data, the Rais allows panel data estimations and therefore a more complete analysis. The results show that wages are heavily influenced by tenure and do not depend on firms characteristics.
