Third parties have access to user’s Facebook profile information through apps and social login, for example. This creates a hidden privacy threat that many people might not be aware of. Previous studies do not show a strong correlation between people’s privacy awareness and their behaviour on Facebook. In this study, we examine how aware people are of their profile information being shared with third parties by Facebook. Specifically, we are interested to see is there any significant correlation between the big five personality types and the participant’s awareness of data being shared by Facebook with third parties. We use an online questionnaire to test how knowledgeable people are of what data is being used with third parties. The results of 22 questionnaire answers show that there is no significant correlation between the personality type and the awareness of the data shared by Facebook. In general user’s were not very aware of their data being shared with third-party apps.
