Abstract

This article examines China’s strategy pertaining to their ‘String of Pearls’. China has strengthened their relationships through financial support and construction of infrastructure within countries that have a history of political instability. The focus is on maritime superiority with each ‘pearl’ can serve as both an economic and military hub for China. China has caught the attention of the United States with their increased military spending, increased support of local governments, and increased influence in Africa with the aid to dictators undoing the progress of democracy attempts.
