Abstract

This article discusses the pitfalls of being a young or youthful-looking librarian. Anecdotal and humorous in tone, the concepts will resonate with baby-faced professionals who have encountered implicit bias. Young librarians are concerned with the possible social and professional effects of appearance. Physical characteristics can imply newness to the profession, impact the attainment of leadership roles, and deceive patron expectations. There are strategies and philosophies that can be adopted to navigate the influence of appearance on worklife.
