Abstract

This commentary reminds the reader that many measurement problems faced by Czech economists also exist in the United States and are unlikely to disappear as the Czech Republic completes the transition to a democratic, market-based economy. The commentary also describes the conceptual problems posed by the ongoing, relatively rapid inflation in the regulated price sectors. It also explains two reasons why the reader should be skeptical about the reliability of this paper's empirical estimate of bias in the CPI.
