Abstract

Globalization processes and the development of information technology influence and change the area of savings as well. In modern market-based economies there is growing investment into different types of securities in addition to traditional forms of saving. Lately there has been a noticeable trend of investing surplus resources into different forms of recent coins. Due to their numerous advantages and specific features, such investments are a highly attractive form of money deintermediation. Given the rich Croatian heritage in terms of money, the country's experiences in issuing modern money, and its expected accession to the European Union, new possibilities in this area are opening up.
