Abstract

Numismatics is determined and defined as an essential function of money. This is new in the modern theory of economy that does not recognise this function of money. The scientific foundation of above thesis is in the importance of this function in the recent coinage. On the basis of the function of the coinage determined in this way its development as a significant trade activity turns to be indispensable. The paper defines the object of the research in a much extensive way than it is usually so, nowadays. Besides the "archaeological" money it covers historical money (that is not in direct link with archaelogy), as well as all kinds of recent coinage, that is particularly emphasised. The paper also discusses organisational problems in numismatic marketing, as well as problems regarding modern legislature in this field. This paper was based on Croatian numismatic history that is extremely rich.
